A common inquiry we get is around the adoption fee, and what that covers.
It's paramount here at RescueMe, that the cats and kittens we send you home with are healthy and fully vetted to ensure a happy homecoming and experience with your new pet. In order to do this we ask for an adoption fee. Since RescueMe is a non-profit, none of us volunteers or board members are paid for our work. We rely 100% on our volunteers willing time and donations from our supporters. So let's break down the cost structure. Cats: 6m+ - $150 Many times we have adult cats available for adoption. The benefits to adopting an adult cat are numerous. Things like an already known personality, calmer behavior, established eating patterns and litterbox use, etc. Adult cats come to us through many avenues, but our most prolific way is pregnant momma cats. All adult cats need certain basic things offered during the foster time, those include: Solid Food: $39.99/25lb bag
Each foster cat may consume 1-2 bags of food depending on their length of stay before adoption. Along with nutrition, there are services we offer to neonate kittens that require supplies. Some of these include:
Deworming Treatments
Treatment for Coccidia and other illnesses
Toys and Beds
Litter/litter box
Vet Visits ($50-$60/visit + additional fees if labs are needed) through our partner vet
We also include Cat Vaccine/Sterilization Package* (any standard healthy cat medical we don't already have medical records for):
FeLV vaccine (2 doses (2 week cycle)) - $10/ea
FHCPCh vaccine (2 doses (2 week cycle)) - $10/ea
FeLV/FIV Test - $20 (if required)
Rabies - $5
Microchip - $30
Spay/Neuter - $45/$35
Surgery Pain Meds - $15
Total Medical for a healthy cat: $145
It's important to note that the adoption fee covers standard Cat vaccine/sterilization Package. *Additional unforseen medical complications or illness is not covered within the Cat Vaccine/Sterilization Package.
We are able to augment the total cost of an adult cat for our adopters through the donations of our supporters. Because, as you can see, our math doesn't math so well at $150/cat. It's our goal to both support our cost base, while still giving a very economical option for our adopters to adopt kittens through us.
